A young redheaded woman, three-quarter length, stands out against a profusion of deep blues, velvety blacks, and golden flashes. The body, left in clear reserve, is simply suggested by warm lines; the fuchsia and violet dressing gown, strewn with floral motifs, becomes a garden in itself. The pastel highlights add grain and velvet; the diffuse, sometimes iridescent watercolor creates halos that envelop the figure. The whole combines delicacy and assurance—an intimate victory celebrated by the flower.
